Privacy Notice
Last updated 24 July 2026
This notice explains how Watch’d collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use our website, mobile apps and related services.
1. Who is responsible for your information
Watch’d is a movie and television tracking and community service. Watch’d is responsible for deciding how the personal information described in this notice is used.
For privacy questions or requests, email support@watchd.media.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use Watch’d, we collect:
- Account information: your email address, username, internal account identifier, authentication status and security timestamps.
- Profile information: your display name, biography, avatar, backdrop, favourite titles and people, chosen experience, appearance preferences and visibility settings.
- Viewing information: diary entries, watch history, watchlists, ratings, likes, reviews, episode progress, show status, custom watches, lists, tags, notes and recommendations.
- Community information: comments, follows, blocks, reports, moderation history and other interactions.
- Import information: files and records you choose to import from supported services, together with title matches, skipped items and errors.
- Notification information: push-notification tokens, installation identifiers, preferences and delivery status.
- Technical and support information: IP address, device and app version, request and security logs, rate-limit records, diagnostics and information you send to support.
We receive movie and television metadata from TMDB. Search terms and title identifiers may be sent to TMDB so that we can return the results and details you request. Your use of titles may reveal your entertainment interests.
The public marketing website does not require an account and does not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. Its hosting provider may process basic request and security logs needed to serve and protect the site.
We do not currently use third-party behavioural-advertising SDKs, and we do not sell personal information.
3. How and why we use information
We use personal information to:
- create, authenticate and secure your account;
- sync your history, ratings, lists, preferences and progress;
- provide profiles, reviews, comments, follows, recommendations and other community features;
- process imports that you request;
- deliver notifications that you enable;
- prevent spam, fraud, abuse and unauthorised access;
- investigate reports, moderate content and enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines;
- respond to support, privacy and safety requests;
- diagnose problems and maintain a reliable service; and
- comply with legal obligations and valid legal process.
Where UK data-protection law applies, our lawful bases are:
- Contract, where processing is needed to provide the service you request.
- Legitimate interests, including reliable service operation, security, abuse prevention and community safety.
- Legal obligation, where the law requires us to process or retain information.
- Consent, where consent is required. You may withdraw it at any time.
We do not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. What other people can see
Your username and any profile information you choose to display publicly can be seen by other users. Public reviews, comments, lists, likes, follows and activity may also be visible.
Other people may copy or share public information outside Watch’d. Do not post personal or confidential information that you do not want others to see.
Private lists and supported visibility controls are handled according to the setting shown in the app. Blocking limits interaction between accounts but cannot remove copies made outside Watch’d.
5. Who receives information
We disclose information only as needed to operate and protect Watch’d:
- Supabase provides authentication, database, storage and server-function infrastructure.
- Apple and Google distribute the apps and deliver push notifications when you enable them. Their own policies apply to the platform information they collect.
- TMDB provides movie and television search results, artwork and metadata.
- Our domain, website, email and support providers process the limited information needed to provide those services.
- Professional advisers, regulators, courts or law-enforcement bodies may receive relevant information where required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, the service or legal rights.
Public content is disclosed to other Watch’d users as part of the service. Some providers also process information under their own privacy policies. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Letterboxd and other supported import services are separate from Watch’d.
6. International transfers
Our providers and their subprocessors may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK law requires a safeguard, we rely on an applicable adequacy regulation or approved contractual protection, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Contact us for more information about the safeguard relevant to your information.
7. How long we keep information
We retain account information and user content while your account is active, unless you delete the content sooner.
Current operational periods include:
- temporary import data is removed after it is no longer needed, with cleanup periods of up to 90 days depending on its state;
- completed push-delivery records are retained for up to 30 days;
- disabled push-device registrations are retained for up to 90 days;
- rate-limit records are normally retained for no more than two days after the relevant window; and
- detailed evidence from resolved moderation reports is normally scrubbed after 180 days.
Support correspondence, privacy requests, security logs and limited moderation records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed for support, security, disputes and legal compliance.
Account deletion removes account-owned information from active systems. Restricted backup copies may remain until normal backup rotation completes. We may retain limited information where required by law or reasonably necessary for safety, fraud prevention, a moderation appeal or a legal claim.
8. Your choices and rights
The app allows you to edit supported profile information and content, control supported visibility settings, manage notifications, block or report users, request a data export and permanently delete your account. Deleting the app from your device does not delete your Watch’d account.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of your information, object to certain processing and withdraw consent. Email support@watchd.media to exercise a right. We may need to verify your identity.
If UK GDPR applies, we normally respond within one month, subject to lawful extensions or exemptions. You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, although we would appreciate the opportunity to address the concern first.
9. Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account from Watch’d Settings. Deletion is designed to remove your authentication account, profile, viewing activity, ratings, progress, reviews, comments, lists, recommendations, social relationships, notification registrations, imports and account-scoped files.
Deletion cannot be undone. If you cannot access the app, email support@watchd.media from the address associated with the account.
10. Security
We use measures designed to protect information, including encrypted connections, access controls, database row-level security, restricted service credentials, rate limiting and account-scoped storage.
No online service can guarantee complete security. Use a strong, unique password and contact us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
11. Children
Watch’d is not intended for children under 16, and users under 16 must not create an account.
If we learn that an account belongs to a child who is not permitted to use Watch’d, we may restrict or delete it and take appropriate safeguarding action. Contact support@watchd.media if you are concerned about a child’s information or safety.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this notice as Watch’d, its providers or the law changes. We will publish the revised version with a new “Last updated” date and provide additional notice where required.
Questions and privacy requests can be sent to support@watchd.media.
